Grand Bend deemed ‘unsafe’ for swimming

Beach bums going to Grand Bend will need to soak up some rays on the sand instead of getting wet in the water.

The Lambton Public Health has deemed Grand Bend North Beach unsafe to swim due to high levels of E. Coli. Health officials have posted signs on the beach warning visitors the beach isn’t cleared for swimming.

“We post the beach with a warning sign indicating that high levels of bacteria have been detected in the water, and that we recommend people do not swim at this time until further sampling has been done” says environmental health specialist, Paul Buttery.

“The E.Coli could be caused by bacteria in the sediment that has been turned up during storm activity” adds Buttery. “There’s been some recent storms go through the Grand Bend area, but also from run off from rain.”

More testing will be done throughout the week, and signs will be changed when necessary.
