Kitchener Fire continues to investigate the blaze at Victoria Common, as homes are smouldering from the fire this morning at Louisa and St. Leger Street.
The office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating, but officials say it could take up to five days to complete.
Fire crews were called to the Victoria Common condo development at around 5:30 Tuesday morning. The flames could been seen throughout Kitchener and Waterloo. Some callers saying they saw smoke from the Sunrise Centre and Conestoga Mall.
One of the residents of the destroyed homes tells 570 News he was awoken by his brother ringing the doorbell telling him to quickly get out of the house.
A total of 14 units have been completely destroyed, while another two units suffered smoke and water damage. Three units were completely demolished overnight for safety reasons.
“We’ve set up an emergency response area if you may, with food and beverages” says Massimo Marotta, Marketing Manager for Losani Homes. “We did reserve an X amount of rooms at the Radisson Hotel to accomodate those where the homeowners are not allowed to get back into their homes.”
The Kitchener Fire Department are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything around 5:30 Tuesday morning in the area of St. Leger Street and Louisa Street to come forward.
