Guelph transit workers vote on tenative labour deal

There’s the possibility of a transit strike in Guelph, as workers vote on a tentative labour deal from the city.

More than 200 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1189 have until 8 o’clock tonight to vote.

Workers have been without a collective agreement for a year, and after 22 days of bargaining, the city says this is their final offer.

The latest offer from the city would see small pay increases amounting to 6.4% over the next four years, but there would be no change to health and medical benefits.

If the deal is rejected, the union could hold a strike vote which could send workers to the picket lines.

Results are expected to be announced tonight after voting concludes.
