Young girl in critical condition after being struck by van in Kitchener

An 11-year-old Kitchener girl has been sent to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a GMC van on Westwood Drive in Kitchener around 1 o’clock this afternoon.

Police say a 53-year-old Kitchener man was pulling into a driveway on Westwood Drive, when he struck the girl, who was riding her bike on the sidewalk at the time.

Police say the driver ran over the girl, who was caught underneath, and she was dragged a short distance.

Regional Police confirm the girl is in critical condition, and has been airlifted to Hamilton.

It’s still to early to say if charges will be laid.
