Council votes to delay work on Margaret Avenue bridge

Politics is getting in the way of the reconstruction of Kitchener’s Margaret Avenue bridge. The Record says council voted Monday night to delay the work for at least another six weeks.

City staff made the recommendation based on several rail announcements that were made by the Liberals during the recent provincial election campaign. They say it’s unclear whether a wider bridge will be needed.

Council is expecting another report on the project in mid-August.

The bridge has been closed since being declared unsafe last June.
