11:00- Barry Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer, Consulting Engineers of Ontario
The Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) are calling on the Ontario Liberals to address  the critical need for comprehensive planning and investment to upgrade and enhance the province’s infrastructure. Representing more than 200 member engineering firms from across Ontario, CEO advocates that much more time and attention is required to address the province’s infrastructure deficit. Consulting Engineers of Ontario emphasizes 4 core principles in order to eradicate infrastructure deficit: 1-Government’s continued commitment to a long-term infrastructure strategy with an emphasis on planning 2-Infrastructure commitments supported by dedicated revenue streams 3-A standardized decision-making process for all public infrastructure projects to determine whether traditional or alternative financing and procurement methods are used 4-Focusing investment on core infrastructure, both on new capital projects and ongoing repair and maintenance of existing assets.

11:30- Jay Aissa, Founder of the Coalition Stop Waterloo LRT Inc.
Despite collecting more than 3,380 signatures on their “Stop the LRT” petition, the last legal obstacle standing in the way of the region’s light rail transit project has been toppled, but the group fighting LRT isn’t giving up. In March, a request by Coalition Stop Waterloo LRT Inc. for a temporary injunction to halt the Ion project was dismissed by Justice Anne Tucker. Now, the entire challenge – calling for a judicial review – has been dropped.  “In her decision she found that the region had complied with the Planning Act and had completed a required environmental assessment and she dismissed the coalition’s motion for an interim injunction,” regional solicitor Debra Arnold said Friday. “The court application was still in existence and then this past week we received notice of abandonment from the coalition. That litigation is concluded.” Aissa, though, says the fight is not over.
