11:00- Sex Professionals of Canada is devastated by the proposed bill C-36 that has been put forward by the Conservative Government of Canada on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. This government has willfully and intentionally placed sex workers safety and lives in danger. Keeping criminalization in place will continue the violence, stigma and social exclusion of sex workers. All the laws that were struck down by the Supreme Court of Canada as unconstitutional have been virtually re-instated under the guise of ‘protecting us’. This new bill labels all of us as victims and labels all our clients as criminals. It is deplorable what the Conservative government has done to sex workers.

In an artificial intelligence milestone, a computer program has become the first ever to pass the “Turing Test,” which requires that at least 30 percent of humans who interact with it believe it to be a real person. In a contest in London, the program designed by a Russian team convinced 33 percent of the judges during a five-minute typed conversation that it was a 13-year-old Ukrainian boy named Eugene Gootsman. ZDNet notes, however, that choosing a 13-year-old boy for the program makes it easier to pass the test, since “he” wouldn’t be expected to know everything and would be more likely to make minor grammatical or linguistic mistakes. Realistic human-like programs could one day be used for things like helping website visitors or as part of robots that provide human companionship, but they could also be used for cybercrime.
