World’s Biggest Bake Sale

Get ready for the World’s Biggest Bake Sale!

“The Running Rarebits” a local community fundraising group is back with a second attempt at breaking the world record.

Organizer and Co-founder of the bake sale – Maria Michel says they are aiming to sell over 15,000 baked goods in eight hours.

“Last year we tried to hit the record and we were a little under 400 items shy of accomplishing that, but we did raise a little over $13,000.”

Michel says there is still lots of work that goes into proving their success.

“We have a lawyer with us who is going to vouch for us. We also have to have official timers with stop watches that are accurate to the point zero one second. We also have to submit all proof of sales.”

The record is based on the number of items sold in eight hours. In order to achieve they need to sell at least 13,085 baked goods.

“We have our variety packs the same way we had last year. Cup cakes will be sold individually, as well as some fancy items and an unlimited supply of gluten free gluten treats.”

The Bake Sale runs from 10-6 today at the Boardwalk on Ira Needles. All proceeds go to the Kitchener Grand-River Rotary Club.
