The CFLPA announces negotiations are back on with the CFL. Talks are set to resume Wednesday in Toronto. Last week, the CFL reached out directly to its players and fans after the latest round of labour talks with the CFL Players’ Association hit a snag. The league announced it had rejected a proposal from the CFLPA and also made its first public declaration on the negotiations, unveiling details of the offer it made to the Players’ Association on May 15. Commissioner Mark Cohon outlined the specifics by releasing a pair of letters – one to players and a separate one to fans – saying the league offered to boost both the salary cap and minimum salaries over five seasons.

Faced with the loss of Bearskin Airlines flights to Ottawa and deafening complaints about airport noise, expansion of the Region of Waterloo International Airport is looking like it won’t fly. Strickland said a master plan committee, tasked with deciding the airport’s future, plans to recommend there be no expansion at this time. Noise concerns and the unused capacity are also driving the recommendations to cancel expansion, he said. The airport operated at about half its capacity last year and received a taxpayer subsidy of about $6.3 million. According to a master plan report, the status quo option won’t get the airport off a taxpayer subsidy because capacity will be limited to about 250,000 annual passengers.
