Tornado warnings yesterday for the Windsor area as well as Mount Forest was a blunt reminder we have moved into a different weather system.
Research shows during March and April warm moist air from the gulf of Mexico starts to creep into the central part of North America.
But Storm Chaster George Kourounis told 570s midday show that as the season progresses, the jet stream moves north into Canada.
“You still have colder air to the north and dry warm air to the west and the jet stream gets into position. Its like soup, when you have the ingredients for the soup its delicious when you don’t have the proper ingredients the recipe doesn’t work.”
Tornado season is already in full swing in the United States. Kourounis says they see up to eight hundred tornado a year, whereas Southern Ontario only sees up to twenty.
Kourounis adds that our area is harder hit by tornadoes, since Southern Ontario is surrounded by the Great Lakes.
