Butch Carter speaks out about alleged racist comments

Former head coach of the Toronto Raptors, Butch Carter, is speaking out about yesterday’s penalty against LA Clippers owner, Donald Sterling.

Yesterday, the National Basketball Association slapped Sterling with a $2.5 million dollar fine and banned him for life from the N-B-A for making racist comments about black people.

“Donald Sterling, I believe, as far as what he thinks of African Americans, is despicable” says Carter. “The guy where he’s at morally, his bigotry, does not surprise me.”

Currently, the commissioner of the N-B-A is pushing other owners to support forcing Sterling to sell the team.

“I don’t think there’s a morality clause in the current constitution that would allow them to do it” says Carter. “I believe it’s really a reach. But at least he stood up and said this is what I’m going to do for today, but I don’t think you can take a billion dollar asset from a guy without having some kind of fight.”

“What the owners have to do, is giving the commissioner the power to disperse a lot of that money into the California community and they would expect that they solved this crisis, that the league would grow, the loyalty for the minority side, would grow” adds Carter.

Yesterday’s penalty was the first step towards forcing the sale of the club and permanently removing Sterling from the league.
