It was a memorable day at Blessed John Paul II elementary school in Kitchener this morning.
Toronto’s Archbishop Thomas Cardinal Collins skyped with dozens of students all the way from Rome.
Cardinal Collins is at the Vatican Church for Pope John Paul II canonization celebration on Sunday.
Grade seven students Haley Mikos and Avery Bate say they were surprised at how down to earth the Cardinal appeared.
“I just think that he’s a really nice guy to know, and we should all try and be like him.”
“He was actually really down to earth, he said he really liked Tim Horton’s muffins.”
Vice Principal of the school Sean Spizig says these opportunities give insight into biblical saints.
“Blessed John Paul is a person that we’ve know in our life time. I think it provides us and the students an opportunity have a name sake that is a saint that we also knew.”
Blessed John Paul II along with another pope will become saints after they are canonized on Sunday.
