St. Mary’s dealing with gastrointestinal outbreak

Visitor restrictions are in place at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener as it deals with a gastrointestinal outbreak.

Half of its fifth floor General Medicine Unit has been closed to transfers and admissions.

That’s where five admitted patients and four staff members have been confirmed to have symptoms consistent with a gastrointestinal illness.

Those symptoms include nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Patients with the symptoms have been isolated and the hospital is enacting enhanced cleaning and infection control procedures.
