Chaput named Outstanding Woman of Laurier

Bree Chaput has been named Outstanding Woman of Laurier. The award was presented at a luncheon on Wednesday.
The award, handed out annually, recognizes a female Laurier student who combines athletic and academic achievement, as well as volunteer efforts in the community.
Chaput tells 570 News she feels blessed even to be nominated.
“It feels amazing! Kelsey, Doreen and Emily are all amazing athletes and they’ve all been successful with their academics and in the community as well. Anyone of us could have taken it home today.”
Chaput is a fourth year Kinesiology student and captain of the varsity women’s basketball team. Away from the court, she volunteers with Special Olympic track and field athletes and Big Brother/Big Sister Waterloo region.
Doreen Bonsu, Emily Brown, and Kelsey Tikka were the three other nominees.
Since the event began in 2006, it has generated more than $260,000 for women’s athletic programs.
