Cambridge fire chief announces retirement

Cambridge Fire Chief, Bill Chesney is retiring after 37 years of service.

The chief notified his staff late last week that he would be retiring at the end of May.

“My most fond memories are of all the people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with” says Cambridge Fire Chief, bill Chesney. “Some very dedicated people. Both within the department, and City of Cambridge, with the fire museum and with Conestoga College.”

Chesney says he’s looking forward to spending more time with his children and grand-children, and visiting his cottage in Tobermory more often.

“All of my kids live out west, so I had the opportunity just a month or two ago, to go out and see them” says Chesney. “I discussed it with them, and after 37 years they thought it would be nice to have me around a little bit more.”

“Going forward in the future, I’ve worked with some excellent people and we’ve developed a 10 year master plan for the city and for the fire department” adds Chesney. “I’m quite confident that moving ahead, they’ll move the department ahead quite well without me.”

Chesney’s last day will be May 30th, 2014.
