Premier Kathleen Wynne is in Waterloo Region today.Prior to her address at the Greater KW and Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, she joined 570’s Gary Doyle Show.
When asked about the possibility of a spring election, Wynne says the Liberals are going to develop a budget that is sound and based on their principals and that she’s working to make the minority government function
She touched on a number of topics, including the controversy surrounding the LRT and their ongoing commitment to public transit.
“We have made a commitment to building public transit. We are going to maintain that commitment. We’re going to have a fund and revenue stream that is dedicated to building transit. We took gas tax increases, HST increases and middle incomes tax increases off the table because we know that families are struggling.”
She also addressed the issue of the cost of hydro in Ontario – and said the Liberals are not building new nuclear plants — and are working to take costs out of the electricity system with a number of programs.
On a more personal note, Wynne also commented on the departure of Kitchener Centre MPP John Milloy. “He’s been such a strong member, such a strong advocate for the Region. He’s a friend and a colleague who has done a terrific job and we’ll very much miss him.”
