Waterloo has to dip into reserves to pay for snow clearing

This seemingly endless winter has taken a major bite out of the City of Waterloo’s winter control budget.

Staff presented a report to council Monday night which indicates the $1.5-million budget for 2013 recorded a deficit of just under $500,000.

That makes it the worst year for snow removal, in terms of dollars and cents, since 2008.

The shortfall will be covered by the winter control reserve.

So far in 2014, 43% of the winter control budget has already been spent.
