Rainfall warning, may receive 50-mm in next two days

Although Spring doesn’t officially arrive until March 20th, we’re already getting a wet preview of what’s in store.
A rainfall warning remains in place for Waterloo Region and all of Southern Ontario
The weather service says up to 50 mm of rain could fall during this downpour. Aside from steady rain, thunderstorms will also be a possibility across the region, along with rising temperatures, and winds gusting up to 80 kilometres an hour at times.
“We’ve had special weather statements out about this event, leading up to it, talking about the mild spell, the melt, talking about all the rain we’re anticipating starting this afternoon and continuing into Friday” says meteorologist with Environment Canada, Geoff Coulson. “Piling that additional snow against the house is probably not the best idea, given the fact that it could seep down into the foundation.”
Rising temperatures are also causing concerns about flooding as the snow melts.
The weather service is reminding everyone to move snow away from storm drains, and areas around your house to prevent flooding.
“If you do have a storm drain near your property, giving that water free access to the drain, so it is going to take care of most of the water that occurs” adds Coulson. “Knowing full well that there will be areas, low lying areas, we could be looking at a lot of standing water by Friday morning.”
On Saturday, temperatures are expected to drop again falling to minus 7 by Sunday.
