“Ladies and Gentleman, The Beatles!”

Sunday marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

The appearance is looked back on as the official launch of Beatlemania and exposed the nation to the mop-top hairdos.

Former owner of Sam the Record Man in Downtown Kitchener, Gil Zubrigg tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show the band was something that not only changed the music world but the marketing world as well.

“It’s amazing the influence they had…all of a sudden marketing companies started to recognize that teenagers had power.”

Zubrigg adds this was what society needed at the time.

“We were coming out of the Kennedy assassination which was pretty doom and gloom and all of sudden there was this ray of light, ray of fun, ray of fun coming from England, and it really turned things around.”

The night of February 9th, 1964, tens of millions watched as John, Paul, George and Ringo took the stage where David Letterman now does his late night show.
