With the news that Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr will not seek re-election in October, some in the community are talking about what he will be remembered for.
Zehr was first elected mayor in 1997 after serving nine years as a city councillor.
President and CEO of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, Ian McLean says first and foremost we should say thank you to Zehr. He says being in public office is not an easy job.
McLean says Zehr has always been a strong leader.
“You may not have not always agreed with him, but you knew where he was coming from and what his position was…”
So far, city councillor Dan Glenn-Graham is the only person to have declared an intention to seek Zehr’s job.
