Canada’s flag bearer announcement

We’ll find out this morning who will carry the Canadian flag at the Opening Ceremonies at the Sochi Winter Olympics in about two weeks.
The Canadian Olympic Committee will make the announcement at 10 a-m Eastern Time on Parliament Hill.
The favourites include short-track speedskater Charles Hamelin, who won two gold medals at the Vancouver games four years ago — the lone Canadian to win more than one gold in those games.
Another possibility is Alexandre Bilodeau, who captured Canada’s first gold at the Vancouver Games in freestyle moguls.
Sydney Crosby likely won’t be picked to carry the flag even though he scored the goal that won Canada the gold medal in men’s hockey in Vancouver.
His Pittsburgh Penguins play the New York Rangers on Friday, February 7th — the same day as the Opening Ceremonies in Sochi.
Alpine skiier Erik Guay, who posted a pair of fifth-place finishes in Vancouver, is another possible choice.
So is Hayley Wickenheiser, Canada’s biggest women’s hockey star and a pioneer of the game who will make her fifth Olympic appearance. (The Canadian Press)
