Ice Storm Aftermath

It’s been a week since parts of Eastern Canada were hit by a fierce ice storm, and the lights and heat are still not on for thousands of residents.
The number of homes and businesses still without power in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick has been trimmed to forty thousand, down from six hundred thousand.
The hardest hit is Toronto, where sixteen thousand customers remain in the dark. Mayor Rob Ford sees a “light at the end of the tunnel,” and believes power could be fully restored in the city by Tuesday.
Also waiting to be reconnected this morning are about eight hundred customers elsewhere in Ontario, thirteen thousand in Quebec, and eighty seven hundred in New Brunswick.
With milder temperatures in southern Ontario, residents are now dealing with the hazards of ice slabs falling from slanted rooftops and high rise buildings.
