Regional police launch festive R.I.D.E. program today

Waterloo Regional Police launch their festive R.I.D.E. program today.
Last year, officers checked over 12,000 vehicles during the festive R.I.D.E. campaign. Police conducted 81 roadside tests, laying eight impaired charges and issuing 11 licence suspensions.
“Festive R.I.D.E. is a holiday season tradition that helps reinforce public awareness and supports the ongoing police message of driving only while sober,” said Staff Sergeant Scott Diefenbaker, head of Traffic Services. “Police and our community partners are working together for road safety and urge the motoring public to help reduce motor vehicle collisions and injuries resulting from driver impairment.”
Police urge you to plan ahead by arranging for a designated driver or using public
transportation if you plan to consume alcohol. You should also call 9-1-1
if you suspect a drunk driver.
