Region looking at over $5 million in budget cuts

The public got their first say on the region’s proposed 2014 budget
on Wednesday.
Councillors are eyeing over $5 million in service cuts.
One proposal is to slash over $800,000 from underused Grand River Transit routes.
The Record reports more than a dozen regional residents opposed the cuts at Wednesday’s meeting.
The member of a local citizen tax watch group, Harald Drewitz says the regional
government has a spending and not a revenue problem.
Councillors are hoping to get the property tax increase to 2.8 per cent.
The next public input session is set for December 11th. The budget will be finalized on January 15th.
