Staff Budgets for Waterloo Region

Staff Budget’s has been tabled for Waterloo Region.
Chair of the Budget Committee, Tom Galloway tells 570 News it’s at a 1.9 per cent increase on regional operations. In order to do that staff had to find $7.5 million dollars in savings.
He adds that services like the Grand River Transit on less popular routes will be affected to some extent. “If you’re a transit user to a particular route that is not going to operate past six pm anymore, that may affect you personally.”
Rural transfer stations are also being closed, and some minor reductions in funding towards organizations, all adding up to about $5 million dollars.
Grand River Transit will also be going up by $1.2 million dollars with new services, including the adapted bus rapid transit in Cambridge.
Right now the police budget is at 1.1 per cent and the target is .9 per cent.
Galloway says they have asked the Chief of Police, Matt Torigian, to look at the .9 per cent budget increase.
“It’s just getting down to that particular level without any service cuts.”
