KPL looking for volunteers to update soldier information

The Kitchener Public Library is looking for volunteer researchers to help prepare soldier biography cards.

KPL librarian and historian, Karen Ball-Pyatt, told 570’s Gary Doyle Show there’s a special reason for issuing the appeal now.  “Now’s the time to do it, with the centennial of the start of the First World War coming up in September of 2014, I think it’s an apt time to commemorate these soldiers who served Canada.”

Ball-Pyatt says some of the libary’s current soldier cards are quite vague. “Some of the cards have a treasure trove of information and then there are other cards which just have a name and a rank and that he lived in Kitchener, and that’s all we know about him.”

She adds the library is looking to update their index of soldier information cards.  “We’re looking for short, 200-word maximum biographies of these soldiers so that we can put more of a story to the name.  It’s nicing have the name, but you really want to know who this person was and what happened to them.”
