Oktoberfesters are once again being treated to the Free Oktoberfest Family Breakfast on Saturday, celebrating 32 years serving pancakes to the community.
It is put on by 570 News, and our sister stations 96.7 CHYM-FM and Country 106.7.
Conestoga College’s Culinary Program Chef Philippe Saraiva and his students will be back, as he celebrates 15 years serving breakfast for festival patrons.
He understands that 4:00 AM is an early starting time for these students, but says you can see their dedication.
“It’s fun! You see the kids coming in the morning with their eyes closed, half asleep. But you cannot pry them away from the griddle or from the grills by ten o’clock. The fact that students graduate, and two or three years later they call me up and say ‘You need help for the breakfast? I’m ready to go!” It’s nice to see.”
The pancakes, sausages, and coffee are free but patrons are asked to bring a non perishable food item.
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will have a truck there to collect any donations, after raising 5-thousand pounds of food last year.
Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 AM on Saturday at Waterloo Public Square.
