Jean Steckle Public School on Woodbine Avenue in Kitchener was closed all day Friday due to a flood.
Classes will resume Monday as normal. According to the schools’ website, a pipe burst in a second floor water fountain which resulted in two to three inches of water in the upstairs hall, ceiling tiles and more running down into some main floor classrooms.
When the situation was assessed Friday morning, the extent of the water’s travel and pooling was unknown and worries about contact with the extensive electrical system (communications, security and fire included) and the lack of available running water forced Facilty Services and Senior Adminstration to close the school to students.
Once again, students and staff will be back in the classroom on Monday.
