Southwood closed for the week

Damages from a fire at Southwood Secondary School in Cambridge are now estimated at $100,000 according to Cambridge Fire. Waterloo Region District School Board Officials say that number could increase as they continue to assess the damage to the second floor of the school.
Meanwhile, the Cambridge high school will remain closed today and Friday.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has completed its investigation and the site has been released back to local police and school board officials.
The status of the school opening will be released over the weekend.
At this time, all extra-curricular and off-campus activities scheduled for these days have been cancelled.
Board Officials say the fire began on the second floor in the boys’ wash-room.
Superintendent of Education with the Waterloo Region District School Board, Lila Read tells 570 News foul play cannot be confirmed at this time. She says, “The fact that the Fire Marshal was called in suggests that there might be suspicious activity but we don’t know the answer to that at this time.”
Meanwhile, clean-up at the school is under way.
