IMPACT festival starts today

Artists from around the world, across the country and from our own backyards will be participating in a festival in Waterloo Region.

IMPACT 13, The International Multicultural Platform for Alternative Contemporary Theatre festival, kicks off today and continues through to September 29th.

It is a biennial international theatre festival which features international, national and local performances.

The festival, which is organized by MT Space, Waterloo Region’s first and only multicultural theatre company, focuses on interdisciplinary, intercultural, and physical productions.

Artistic Director of IMPACT, Majdi Bou-Matar was a guest on 570’s Gary Doyle Show and says IMPACT is about creating a healthier community and relationships through art.

“It’s a week of performances, conversation, late night entertainment, getting together and discussing shows and building meaningful relationships and hence, building a healthier community.”

Bou-Matar adds that those who are going to attend IMPACT will see performances they will not see anywhere else.

“It’s difference, come experience it, you might actually enjoy it, you might actually feel compelled to come back and to engage in this alternative movement of theatre.”

This year IMPACT is partnering up with The We Are CULTURE campaign which promotes engagement of multiculturalism throughout the region.

Tickets for IMPACT are 20 dollars, or 15 dollars for students and seniors, you can also buy a Festival Pass, which will grant you access to all performance throughout the 6 day festival.
