Ontario’s Conservatives will be getting to work crafting an election platform after debating policy at a weekend party conference in London.
Hundreds of delegates had their say on more than two dozen policy ideas, from cutting income taxes to selling beer and wine in corner stores.
Reporters were barred from the voting room, but some delegates indicated that both ideas passed.
A party official also confirmed that a controversial proposal to end mandatory union membership got the green light, with 53 per cent support.
Some delegates said a proposal to allow municipalities in northern Ontario to make a decision on re-establishing the spring bear hunt was also passed.
Tory Leader Tim Hudak got the stamp of approval by dodging an attempt to pave the way for another leadership review.
A small group of Tories upset that the party lost four of five byelections last month tried to change the constitution so that a leadership vote could be held at any time.
But the motion was overwhelmingly defeated, and Hudak ended the convention by thanking the delegates for their vote of support.
