St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market Gets Ready to Re-Open

Despite a devastating fire that destroyed the main building on the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market early Labour Day Monday, officials say they will be open for business Thursday and Saturday.

Byron Shantz is the owner of St. Jacobs Furnishings Company and has been around the market since he was 16, he tells 570 News he is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

“The market, the connections, the outpouring of from the community and the response..the market is not a building, it’s people.”

Shantz adds that although the market wont look the same, many of the same vendors will be set up in areas that were not effected by the blaze.

“It will look a little bit different this Thursday but there is going to be a lot of vendors, Peddler’s Village will be in full operation, there has been no damage there.”

There is no timeline on the rebuild of the main building Shantz says but adds the community will have a big impact on it’s design.

“People love to come out and have that outdoors rural experience. So I think we will expand a lot on what we’ve seen as a success there and we are going to take in a lot of thoughts and opinions from people who call it there framers market.”
