The Waterloo Region District School Board is looking to make its schools safer.
Security cameras and buzzer systems will be installed at all Waterloo Region elementary schools, with hopes the project will be complete by the end of the year.
In total, WRDSB officials tell CTV News 103 of 104 elementary schools required the upgrade.
$300,000 from the WRDSB will go towards the project, this on top of $320,000 from the province.
Chief Managing Officer for The Waterloo Catholic District School Board, John Shewchuk tells 570 News that no new security measures will be put in place for this coming year as Catholic Schools in the Region are up to date in their security systems.
The security camera and buzzer system won’t be put in place for local high schools due to the high volume of students going in and out of the school.
