Kitchener man charged after incident in Barrie

A 24-year-old Kitchener man is in custody in Barrie accused of theft and escaping lawful custody following an incident at a mall in that community.
Barrie Police were called to the Georgian Mall late yesterday afternoon after receiving a report of two people attempting to shoplift merchandise.
Police say the man and a woman were being held by mall security, but he broke free and helped the woman get away as well.
They were later arrested by police.
A 22-year-old Kitchener woman was charged with theft and then released from custody.
