New Regional Police North Division Headquarters

Waterloo Regional Police’s North Division is settling into their new headquarters today.

Sunday June 2nd is the first day the new facility is in operation, and Staff Sergeant Ray Ward tells 570 News everyone is very excited.

“Some of the key things that we really like about it is there is onsite fuelling for police and ambulance vehicles under a canopy. There is also a sally port now, so prisoners can be brought into the building in a secure fashion, unlike the previous North Division [Headquarters] that did not have that.”

Sergeant Ward adds they met their goal of building the facility specifically for North Division officers.

“We are concentrated on education and high tech industry represented in the construction. It’s an open and inviting yet secure police facility.”

The new headquarters also boasts 45 thousand square feet of space and was built in 2 years on budget. The project cost was $18.6 million dollars, with a net cost of approximately 15.4 million dollars once the old Erb St. building is sold.

Sergeant Ward says the although the building is much larger than the old one, staffing levels are staying the same.

“But it [the facility] was certainly built with the capacity for growth. We’re looking to be in this building for quite some time and it was built with the intent of growing over the next 20 years.”

The new facility is located at 45 Columbia St. E in Waterloo.
