Former Waterloo Mayor Lynne Woolstencroft has died at the age of 69.
Flags have already been lowered at city hall.
Woolstencroft served as a councillor for the City of Waterloo for three terms, from 1985-1988, 1988-1991, and 1997-2000 and 2000 she was elected as mayor of Waterloo.
Her run as mayor made headlines for the Rim Park financing scandal.
The city also entered into an agreement that lead to what is now the Perimeter Institute.
In the municipal election of November 2003, Woolstencroft was defeated by former mayor and MPP Herb Epp.
Reaction from Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran:
” She was such a strong lover of the City of Waterloo. She worked so hard on behalf of the citizens…putting her heart and soul into it. She did so much for our city.”
Halloran says she knew Woolstencroft had been sick for a while but says this news is still a shock. Halloran sends her condolences to the family.
No funeral arrangements have been announced yet.
