Students in Waterloo Region have an opportunity to be their own boss this summer and get a cash prize for it.
For the tenth year, The Waterloo Region Small Business Centre is offering awards of up to $3000 for students between the ages of 15-29 to start their own company.
Eligible applicants get $1500 in their pocket right away and another $1500 at the end of the summer.
The province sponsored program, Summer Company, allows young entrepreneurs to receive hands-on business training. This including a mentorship program to teach the students all the stages of starting and growing a business.
Manager of the Centre Chris Farrell says the successful businesses are usually the ones that can be started as soon as possible in the summer. This including painting, landscaping, baking, and tutoring. Farrell says they expect 52-100 applications.
The Centre is accepting applications until May 17 at www.ontario.ca/summercompany. You can also call in at 519 741 2200 ext. 7686
