A Guelph man who was in Boston shooting a documentary film at the time of the explosions said in the moments before the bombings, the area felt very safe.
Michael Del Monte was shooting a film that features a segment focusing on last year’s Boston Marathon men’s champion Wesley Korir of Kenya.
Del Monte was a guest on 570’s Gary Doyle show, and said there was heavy police and security presence.
“There were thousands of volunteers , there were hundreds if not thousands of police officers from Boston, and you just like there is no way anything like this could happen.”
It was lucky, Del Monte explains, his crew could not obtain the media credentials they wanted, and says “It kept us (the crew) away from where we were going to be filming, which was near the explosion.”
Del Monte adds that “the marathon…is an unbelievable demonstration of the human spirit. Theses people have trained all this time and to see something like this happen here…it really muddles the waters, so to speak.”
