Freezing rain warning continues

There’s the potential for a major ice storm tonight.

That is according to Environment Canada.

The weather authority is now saying the main precipitation is expected to arrive this evening.

Freezing rain mixed with ice pellets is expected and it could be heavy at times and may be accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder.

Poor travel conditions are expected during the inclement weather, however, with temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, treated roads will just be wet, while untreated roads may be somewhat slippery.

The main concern tonight though, according to Environment Canada is the risk of widespread power outages this evening from downed tree limbs and power lines due to significant ice accumulation combined with northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h.
