A new CEO at WWCCAC

The overhaul continues at the Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre.

They have named Gordon Milak as CEO and his first day will be June 10th.

2012 saw some issues with the local centre. A provincially appointed supervisor was brought in after the Waterloo Wellington LHIN hired an independent company to review the CCAC. The investigation showed there were major issues with leadership at the highest level, resulting in organizational dysfunction affecting client care.

After Brenda Flaherty joined the team, Barry Monaghan took over as interim chief executive officer.

Milak tells 570 News the public should feel encouraged by the changes, “I think there have been some interim steps with Brenda Flaherty and Barry Monaghan that I think are very positive for the residents of the area. I will be joining that team and we’ll be kind of merging to follow along the work that’s been done, along with the boards.”

Milak will be focusing on quality care, “That’s a continuous process. So always looking for ways to make it better. I think residents have good cause to be optimistic.”

The population is aging and Milak says most people want to stay at home, so they need to work on collaborating with other health system partners, “It’s not just what clients want, but it’s also the emergence of best practices and technologies now make that possible. From a systems standpoint, with the demographic, it’s really needed I think as far as sustaining our health system.”

Milak has over 20 years of operational management experience and is coming here from the South West CCAC in London where he was the Senior Director of Performance Management and Accountability.
