2:00pm- Texts/ Wiretaps and Warrants
Matt Torigian, Waterloo Regional Police Chief Re: The Supreme Court of Canada ruled yesterday that police need more than just an ordinary search warrant to search text messages. They also need a special wiretap order as well. In a 5-2 split decision, the court said that texting is a basic form of conversation and it should fall under the same protection to which private communications are entitled under the criminal code. .
Question: Do you think this makes it tougher for the police? Are you concerned about the police looking through your private conversations?
2:30pm- Sunshine List
Candice Malcom, Ontario Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation RE: The Sunshine List will be out today which provides the names and salaries of people who get paid at least $100,000 dollars. The list includes politicians, civil servants, doctors, nurses and police—all who are in the public sector. Tom Mitchell, President and CEO of Ontario Power Generation is usually near the top followed by Clifford Nordal who is the CEO of St.Joseph’s Health Care in London.
