Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council is looking to start the discussion across the country to reduce opioid-related harms.
They will be providing a total of 12 free webinars starting Monday called Eyes Wide Open: A Canadian Discussion on Opioid-Related Harms.
Top physicians, Medical Health Officers and experts will speak on the issues of smarter prescribing, overdose prevention and opioid treatments, as well as issues in epidemiology.
Waterloo Regional Crime Prevention Council Community Engagement Coordinator Michael Parkinson tells 570 News the United States has taken an interest in opioid related harms, and we do not have an interest in Canada.
“It’s possibly time for Canadians to step up and get serious about a serious problem.”
Accidental overdose was the third leading cause of unintentional death in the province in 2007 and the WRCPC sites prescribed opioids such as Oxycodone, Precocet and Morphine as primary culprits.
Parkinson says that the WRCPC are putting the series out in an ‘effort to start the discussion and get serious about protecting lives and reducing harms for Canadians right across the country.’
The webinars are available at the WRCPC’s website here across Canada.
