The family of a fallen Guelph police officer has issued a statement thanking everyone for their support.
26-year-old Constable Jennifer Kovach died Thursday when her cruiser collided with a bus.
The Guelph Police Service has issued this statement on behalf of Jennifer’s Kovach’s father, Bill Kovach, Donna (stepmother), brother Brian (Melissa), sister Emily and family.
“ We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of sympathy and support from friends and strangers alike during this difficult time.
Jen was a cherished member of a loving family. In Brian’s words, Jennifer was, “the glue that kept our family together”,Jen’s brother, Brian and sister Emily are devastated by the loss of their sister. Jennifer was so looking forward to being an aunt to Brian and Melissa’s new baby girl (Paige) who was born shortly after the accident. Jennifer will also be terribly missed by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins as well as her friends and co-workers.
Jen’s kindness, energy and devotion to life have left us all devastated with her loss. The family is also thankful that Jen’s giving spirit remains evident even in death as having signed her organ donor card. Bill is so proud that his daughter followed in his footsteps as a first responder and thus keeping in the family’s tradition of community service. (Bill retired from EMS in 2011 and was a long serving EMS member, Donna dedicated long standing Emergency Nurse and Gloria’s (mother) long standing dedication to health care and community service).
As a member of the emergency services family, Bill would like his colleagues to know how much the family appreciates the efforts of all the first responders, Guelph EMS, Guelph Police Services, Guelph General Hospital Emergency Department, and Guelph Fire department for their efforts to save Jen. Bill would like to extend special thanks to Paul (his former EMS partner) Dean and Malea who responded to the scene . The family also thanks the transit driver who, despite their own injuries, lent their comfort and support to Jen. The continued love and support from all as we mourn the loss is greatly appreciated beyond words.
Jennifer lived her life to the fullest and it ended far too soon while doing the work that she loved. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
