The Electoral Boundary Independent Commission of Ontario has proposed to add a fifth riding to Waterloo Region.
In a previous proposal, there would have been several districts only partially located within the region.
Kitchener-Conestoga MP Harold Albrecht is pleased with the outcome, an earlier proposal would have eliminated his riding and he tells 570 News the commission listened to input by all constituents.
“I think the results show very clearly that they listen and they got the message.”
The fifth riding would be called Kitchener South – Hespeler and would span from Kitchener, south of Highway 78 to Highway 401 and Fischer-Hallman Road in Kitchener to Townline Road in Cambridge.
“Any member of parliament will do a much better job representing a region that has a commonality as opposed to one that is made up of four different communities,” Albrecht explains.
