University enrolment up

University enrolment numbers are up again this year.

The Ontario Universities’ Application Centre says the number of high school students applying to first year programs was up 2.4 percent compared to last year.

A total of 92-thousand-554 students applied.

Since the year 2000, applicants to Ontario universities have increased by more than 50 percent.

Non-high school applicants are also up this year…currently by 2.3 percent.

Chair of the Council of Ontario Universities and president and vice-chancellor of the University of Guelph, Alastair Sumerlee, says in a release the growing demand for a university education shows students believe a degree is the best investment they can make for their future.
