Kitchener trying to get tax hike below 2%

Kitchener City Council is inching closer to finalizing its 2013 budget.
Over a dozen residents turned out last night for a public input meeting.
One of those in attendance was the head of Communitech, Iain Klugman who stressed the importance of the high tech sector to the city’s economy.
He says attracting talented employees is about more than just the job opening itself.
He says there is also the matter of having a vibrant community to promote which includes arts and culture and recreation as selling points.
Kitchener’s Finance and Corporate Services Committee Chair, Scott Davey tells 570 News residents clearly want council to do its best to keep taxes down.

As it stands now, the proposed increase is 2.87%. Council is aiming for a 1.87% hike.
Davey says he’s confident they will get close to that figure if not lower.
A final budget vote is expected on January 17th.
