New funding for WWLHIN

Cardiac care in the Waterloo-Wellington Local Health Integration Network is getting a funding boost.

St. Mary’s Hospital will receive just over $2.3 million to allow the hospital to provide patients with potentially lethal heart rhythms with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators.

“It’s a tremendous thing here for patients in Waterloo-Wellington, prior to this, they had to travel to London, Hamilton, or Toronto for the implants. It’s a great news day for Waterloo-Wellington,” said  Don Shilton, President of St. Mary’s General Hospital.

Shilton said the hospital is also receiving close to $1 million for other heart surgeries like pace-maker implants and angioplasties.
