Closing schools during serious flu epidemics could keep people out of emergency rooms, according to a new American government study.
The findings result from an American government study which looked at the effects of the Swine Flu epidemic on two Texas communities in 2009. In one of the two, schools were closed as a precaution.
Researchers found where schools were shut down, there were fewer ER visits for the flu, with the impact being most clear among children between six and 18 years of age.
Details have been published in the medical journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
