Yvonne Fernandes wanted to put $2 million into a fund to buy some or all of a popular natural area called Hidden Valley, but city councillors said no to the idea Monday night. Hidden Valley is a 80-hectare (200-acre) natural area in south Kitchener with environmentally sensitive landscapes, significant wetlands, woodlots and rare salamanders. The region has long proposed extending River Road through the woods, but that project was delayed for years by concerns for the Jefferson salamanders (endangered). Coun.
