Local Ride Stats

The Commander of the OPP’s Cambridge Detachment is pleased with this weekends RIDE stats.

John Mraud said there were 3 impaired driving charges laid under the Cambridge Detachment’s watch, which is less than last years Canada Day long weekend, “In 2011 we had 4 persons charged (with impaired driving). We have had higher, going back even further years. I’m hoping that the message is getting out to the public, the fact that we’re out there constantly visible and trying to educate the public on the perils of drinking and driving.”

Mraud said there were also 117 Speeding Charges, including 1 stunt-driving charge for going 163 km/h in a 90 zone; 14 seat-belt charges; 8 distracted driving charges; and several other Highway-Traffic Act violations.

Mraud said the one statistic coming from Cambridge Detachment that isn’t shown in these numbers is, “We had zero fatalities.”

“I appreciate everyone’s efforts, those that were out there obeying the law and supporting their men and women in blue. We count on their cooperation to help us, and people who choose not to be respectful of the law; we will do everything we can in our power to legally change that attitude around.”
